The Florida Tech Panthers women’s lacrosse team kept their
offensive dominance going Thursday night, as the Panthers thumped Tusculum
college 22-4, at Florida Tech Panther Stadium.
Allie Modica led
the Panthers onslaught with six goals and two assists. Sara
Grenier had four goals and an assist, while Caroline Dunleavy ended the night with a hat trick. Defensive Player
of The Week Sam Schiano chipped in
with two.
Schiano scored the first goal of the night, and it looked
like it was going to be a back-and-forth affair, as the teams traded the first
four goals of the game. With 20:38 left in the first half, Grenier gave the Panthers
a 3-2 lead.
At the time, it didn’t seem any more significant than any
other goal, but to say it sparked the Panthers offense would be an
understatement. They went on to score the next 11 goals of the half and went to
the locker room with an 14-2 lead.
Kaitlin Winnie was the Pioneers starter in goal, but she was
replaced by Brooke Wagner came in with about 9:45 left in the first half. The
change didn’t matter, as the Panthers continued to pour it on. Meanwhile,
Panthers goalie Stephanie Stuart was
not credited with a save in the first half.
Grenier and Modica got their hat trick in that run and
Dunleavy had two of her three. She had scored the third goal of the game, so
her hat trick was complete, as well.
Florida Tech (6-1) took 27 shots in the first half, while Tusculum
managed three. Tech dominated the draws, winning 14 of 16 and were 8-of-8 on
clear attempts. The held an 8-4 advantage on ground balls and scored on three
of their five free-position shots.
Stuart got to watch the second half from the sidelines, as Chloe Zador took over in goal. Winnie
came back for the Pioneers and was under siege again early, as Aleah Fjelstad and Modica scored 31 seconds
apart early in the half, as part of a five-goal run by the Panthers.
With the score 19-2, Tusculum broke Florida Tech’s 17-goal
run, when Madison Malone scored with 11:48 to go in the game. It was the first
goal for the visitors since Hayley Bartlett scored 5:41 into the proceedings.
Jordan Grant and Alexis Townsend 1:15 apart for the
Panthers, making it 21-3. Those goals were the second of the night for both
Grant and Townsend.
Tusculum (3-5) got their final goal of the night from Shelby
Gray, with 1:15 to go, making it 21-4. Zador couldn’t stop that, but she was
credited with one save on the evening. Kaele Lawless played the final 1:39 in
goal for the Pioneers and she gave up Modica’s sixth goal, with one second left
on the clock.

As you would expect, the Panthers dominated statistically. They forced 17 turnovers, won draw controls 19-6 and were 11 out of 12 on clears. They got to 17 ground balls, Tusculum had 10. The Panthers were 5-of-9 on free-position shots, while the Pioneers converted 1-of-2.
Florida Tech will look to extend their six-game winning
streak on Saturday, against Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Panthers
