A career-high 14 points from Aniquah Swan was not enough to stop the Panthers from losing their third straight game Monday, a 64-53 defeat to the Shaw Bears, at the Palm Beach Atlantic Holiday Hoops classic.

Florida Tech (6-5) got off to a good start, jumping out to a 10-4 lead. Swan had four of those points and Gudlau Julisdottir had a steal and layup on the other end, to put an exclamation point on the early run.

The Bears (3-10) responded with a 7-0 run, giving them an 11-10 lead with 2:39 left. Tereza Sedlakova hit two free-throws and Gracie Doane hit a three ball, to put the Panthers up, 15-14 with 1:35 left. The Bears regained the lead 16-15, before Sedlakova hit a jumper late to give the Panthers a 17-16 lead after the first quarter.

The difference in the game was the second quarter, as the Bears outscored Florida Tech 18-10. Two early three-pointers got the Bears the lead 22-19 and a 6-0 run opened things up a bit. From there, Florida Tech was chasing points and they went into the locker room down 34-27.

A layup by Julie McCarthy got the Panthers to within one, 36-35 with 5:56 to go in the third quarter, but an 8-0 run by Shaw killed any momentum the Panthers gained and they were suddenly down 43-35 with 2:33 left in the third.

A free-throw by McCarthy and a three from Kareese Johnson were the only points Florida Tech scored the rest of the quarter and they trailed 48-39, heading into the final quarter.
Florida Tech did trim the lead to six, 55-49, with 2:58 to go, but the only big shot for the Panthers from there, was another three by Doane with 52 seconds left.

Shaw scored 30 points in the second half, with 22 of those coming from the charity stripe. They finished the game 26-of-31 from the line. The Panthers were just 6-for-11.

After making just one of 14 three pointers on Sunday against Bellarmine, the Panthers followed it up on Monday, going 3-for-11. They have struggled with the three for much of the season and it haunted them in this tournament.

McCarthy finished with 11 points Monday, to go with her 25 on Sunday. It was more than enough to earn her a spot on the all-tournament team.

The Panthers will travel to Lynn on Friday, December 30 for a conference showdown with the Fighting Knights. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
