Florida Tech to Host North Greenville in Regional Playoff Game



The Florida Tech Panthers will not only play the first postseason game in their four-year history next Saturday, they will host it. The Panthers were given the three seed in Super Region 2 and will welcome North Greenville to Melbourne on Saturday, November 19, at 12:00 p.m.

North Greenville went 7-4, including losses to The Citadel and North Alabama, the number one ranked team in the region. They are coming off wins against Wingate, Carson-Newman and finished with a 37-0 win on the road Limestone College.  

The Panthers (8-2, 5-2 GSC) were ranked fifth in the regional rankings that came out November 7. They were going to need a win over Delta State on Saturday and a bump from the selection committee on Sunday, to get a home game. They got both.

Head coach Steve Englehart talked about the Panthers road to the playoffs, following Saturday’s win over the Statesmen.

“Four weeks ago we said we had to win three out of the last four to make it to the playoffs and we lose the first one to West AL,” he said. “So we lose the first one to West AL, so we knew we had to win three in a row. If you look at that, we’re playing Valdosta, West Georgia and Delta State and you gotta win three in a row, that sounds pretty daunting.”


It sounded daunting, but they did it and Englehart knew that should be enough to get the Panthers into the tournament. He did talk a little bit about how he felt his team might be able to move up in the rankings and thus get a playoff spot.

His thought became reality on Sunday, when the bracket was released during the selection show.

Defense Topples Offense in Florida Tech Spring Game

The game was comprised of 85 plays, with the offense taking on the defense. The defense ultimately came out on top, 35-28. “I thought it was a fairly exciting scrimmage, had some big plays, had some long runs,” said head coach Steve Englehart. “I thought a lot of people did a lot of good things and there’s still a lot of things to work from, as well.” The defense was spotted 28 points to start the game and they could earn different combinations of points, depending on where they made stops and turnovers they forced. Florida Tech Football Clinches Playoff Berth

On the field immediately after Saturday's gam e For the first time in the four-year history of the program, the Florida Tech Panthers are Playoff bound! The team finished the regular season with a convincing 42-16 playoff win over the Delta State Statesmen at Florida Tech Panther Stadium. The victory gave the Panthers their eighth win of the season, setting a school record. They finished 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the Gulf South Conference. “It’s obviously awesome and it’s great for the seniors,” said Florida Tech coach Steve Englehart after the game. “We’re playing bonus ball now and they get another game that wasn’t promised to them.
