Things got off to a good start at Rollins for the Florida Tech women on Saturday, but three turnovers to start the second half started a downward spiral and the Panthers fell, 59-50. They are now 1-5 on the road this season.

The Panthers played good defense and scored 14 points in the first quarter, holding a five-point lead as the second quarter got underway. The Panthers kept the momentum at the start of the second quarter, as they went on a 7-0 run in the span of 2:35, while the Tars were 0-for-5 and that translated to a 21-11 lead for the Panthers with 7:07 to go.

Things were looking good at that point, but the Panthers went ice cold, as they turned the ball over six times in a stretch of 4:42. Rollins went on a 6-0 run and that grew to a 10-0 run, as Rollins tied it up at 21, as the half came to a close. The Panthers scored seven points in that second stanza.

When all was said, and done, the Panthers drought spilled into the third quarter, as the Tars’ press defense forced the Panthers into three turnovers in the first 29 seconds. Julie McCarthy hit two free-throws with 8:11 to go in the quarter and that was the first points the Panthers scored since there was 7:07 to go in the half. By then, the Tars led 27-23.

Florida Tech (9-8, 3-6 SSC) scored 12 points in that third quarter, while the Tars got 23. Florida Tech scored 14 total, between the second quarter and the 4:39 mark of the third. It was a 29-12 disparity overall, in the second and third quarter.

The Panthers did make a game of it in the fourth quarter, going on an 8-0 run early and got it to within three at 44-41, with 8:16 to go, but the Tars pulled away from there and came out with a nine-point conference victory.

DeLise Williams led the Panthers with 11 points and was the only member of the Panthers in double digits. Markeema Crawford finished with nine points and Tereza Sedlakova finished with eight.

Shequana Harris did not make the trip to Rollins for the Panthers. No word on her status for the Panthers game this Wednesday at Barry. The game tips at 5:30 p.m. in Miami Shores.
