For the first time in the four-year history of the program, the Florida Tech Panthers football team is preparing for a playoff game, this Saturday, against North Greenville.  The game is scheduled for a noon kickoff at Florida Tech Panther Stadium. It has been a steady climb for this team, who won five games in their inaugural year of 2013 and have added a win every season, culminating in an 8-2 campaign this season. “Our team is excited to play in the playoffs and I think everyone understands the importance of a playoff game,” said head coach Steve Englehart. “We’re excited to go out there and execute as a football team and hopefully get a win.” This was not a typical week for Englehart and his team. The Florida Tech Panthers will not only play the first postseason game in their four-year history next Saturday, they will host it. The Panthers were given the three seed in Super Region 2 and will welcome North Greenville to Melbourne on Saturday, November 19, at 12:00 p.m. North Greenville went 7-4, including losses to The Citadel and North Alabama, the number one ranked team in the region. They are coming off wins against Wingate, Carson-Newman and finished with a 37-0 win on the road Limestone College.   The Panthers (8-2, 5-2 GSC) were ranked fifth in the regional rankings that came out November 7. They were going to need a win over Delta State on Saturday and a bump from the selection committee on Sunday, to get a home game. They got both. The team finished the regular season with a convincing 42-16 playoff win over the Delta State Statesmen at Florida Tech Panther Stadium. The victory gave the Panthers their eighth win of the season, setting a school record. They finished 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the Gulf South Conference. “It’s obviously awesome and it’s great for the seniors,” said Florida Tech coach Steve Englehart after the game. “We’re playing bonus ball now and they get another game that wasn’t promised to them. They worked for it, they earned it.” Things didn’t get off to the best start for the Panthers, as they gifted Delta State two points on an attempted punt.
