Enders Tallies Twice in Win Over Barry


Junior Forward Evan Enders gave the Florida Tech Men’s soccer team all the offense they would need, scoring a goal in each half and lifting the Panthers to a 2-0 win over the Barry Buccaneers on Tuesday.

Enders got the scoring started at 18:19 of the first half and added his second goal of the night and sixth of the season with 8:23 left in the contest, to give the visitors a 2-0 lead, that would stand up.

The first goal was assisted by Junior Josh Thomas, found Enders on a cross and Enders headed it past Barry goaltender Michael Scheraldi. It was one of seven shots that the Panthers took in the first half, to go along with six corner kicks.

Enders was not on the field to start the second half, but was re-inserted with 12:32 gone in the second half, taking over for Thomas.

Things got a bit heated in the second half, as the Panthers were pushing for an insurance goal. Tobias Hildmann and Fabian Egbele of the Panthers were issued yellow cards 32 seconds apart by referee Carlton Shakes. Miles Francis got one of his own yellow cards for Barry at the 66:13 mark, meaning three cards were shown in a span of about four minutes.

The proceedings settled down for a long stretch, until Enders pounded in his second goal of the night from 10 yards out. That one was assisted by Hildmann. Just over a minute later, Thomas was issued a yellow card. Just under three minutes later, FIT’s Jack Turnbull got his yellow.

That was followed less than a minute later by Shakes showing a yellow to the Bucs’ head coach. As time expired, there was a fighting red card issued to Barry, with a player from that squad getting ejected.

The Bucs took 13 shots on the night, with Florida Tech goalie Christian Moerch coming up with six saves. Scheraldi saved three for the Bucs, with Florida Tech taking 10 shots overall.

The Panthers (9-3-1, 6-3-0) are right back at it on Wednesday, heading to Lake Wales to take on the Warner Royals in a non-conference match. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.

FIT Women Fall Short Against Rollins

The Florida Tech Women’s basketball team made a late run at a comeback Wednesday against Rollins, but ultimately the Tars hung on for a 72-67 Sunshine State Conference win. “It comes down to Rollins wanted that game more than we did,” said Panthers head coach John Reynolds. “I’m thinking that and it hurts me to say something like that, but you can’t come out in a conference game and go 3-for-14 on three’s.” Florida Tech (5-2, 1-2 SSC) led 14-11 after one quarter, The Panthers were within a point at 27-26, but a six-point run by Rollins late in the second helped them outscore the Panthers 25-14 in the quarter and go to the locker room with a 36-28 advantage. Tars Big Second Half Beats Panthers

For the first 20 minutes, they looked up for it, as they led the Tars 38-32 at the half. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the home team put the pedal to the medal in the second half, scoring 59 points and winning 91-82 in a Sunshine State Conference game. It was the second straight devastating loss in the conference for the Panthers, who dropped a very controversial home game to Saint Leo on Wednesday. “We must be the best first half team in America,” said Florida Tech head coach Billy Mims, in his post-game interview with Jim Mitchell. “But we can’t play 40 minutes of consistency to save or lives.” The Panthers (11-8, 4-6 SSC) were up 12 against Saint Leo and up six at Rollins at the half, but lost both games.
