The Tampa Spartans took down Florida Tech 15-10 Saturday, in a Sunshine State Conference game. Tampa used a seven-goal first quarter to put the Panthers behind the eight ball early and the visitors never recovered. With the victory, the Spartans secured their fourth straight SSC title.

Logan Sweeney and Reid Chaconas were the only multi-goal scorers for Florida Tech in this one, each finishing with two goals. Carson Clough led the Panthers with four points (1 G, 3 A).

Jake Mosher McGraw and Conor Whipple each had a hat trick in front of the home crowd.

Florida Tech starting goalie Daniel Flock gave up 14 goals and Matt Young, who played only 10 seconds, gave up one goal. Statistically, the game was close in a lot of categories, but Tampa held a 28-19 advantage in ground balls and that meant more possession time. They made it count.

Cody Martin scored the only goal for the Panthers in that first quarter, while Whipple had two of the seven for the Spartans, who scored twice in the last 32 seconds of the quarter.

Sweeney got the first of three goals for the Panthers in the second quarter, but Tampa matched the output. Addison Abramson and Chaconas scored the other two goals for Florida Tech, who found themselves down 10-4 at the half.

The third quarter was even as well, with both teams scoring two goals. Whipple got his hat trick 46 seconds into the quarter, with Austen Zugelter and Clough answering for the Panthers.

Mosher McGraw scored a man-up goal with 4:42 to go, putting the Spartans up 12-6, going into the final 15 minutes.

Chaconas and Sweeney scored man-up goals 27 seconds apart to start the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 12-8. That was as close as the Panthers would get.  Andrew Kew and Mosher McGraw would make it 14-8, before Dylan Riley scored for the Panthers.

Tampa’s last goal came from Matt Vetter, while the Panthers got their final tally Brett Pohlmeyer with 19 seconds to go in the game.

With the loss, the Panthers fell to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference. They will finish the regular season at home next Saturday, against Rollins. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
