Sara Grenier and Allie Modica tallied six goals each Tuesday night, as the Panthers trampled the Saint Leo Lions 22-7 in a Sunshine State Conference women’s lacrosse matchup. The Panthers surpassed the 200-goal mark for the second time in school history.

For Grenier, the current Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the week, it was her second consecutive six-goal game.

Grenier wasted no time picking up right where she left off against Regis on Friday, scoring the first goal of the night 2:17 into the game, against Lions starting goaltender Erin Davis. Modica scored 55 seconds later, setting the tone for the night, giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Saint Leo cut the lead to 2-1, before Grenier scored with 24:47 left. Sam Schiano picked up a yellow card for the Panthers, but the defense and Panthers goalie Stephanie Stuart kept the Lions off the board. Schiano made up for the yellow card moments later, giving the Panthers 4-1, with 20:15 to go in the first half.

Kaylah Walstad scored her first of two goals on the night, cutting the Panthers lead to 4-2. Goals by Aleah Fjelstad Modica and Mary Gormley, made it 7-2.  Goals by Kelsey Burns were sandwiched around one from Grenier and two from Modica. That ended the half, with the Panthers leading 10-4. Modica had four goals in the first half and Grenier scored three.

Stuart made two saves in the first half, giving up four goals on the eight shots that Saint Leo had in the first half. The Panthers took 25 shots, 18 of those were on goal. They had another 18 shots on goal in the second half. Florida Tech dominated on draw controls in the first half, winning 11 of 15.

Grenier scored 2:29 into the second half and Caroline Dunleavy scored about a minute and a half later, to make it 12-4. After Walstad made it 12-5, Grenier did it again, making it a seven-goal game.

Burns got her hat trick with 23:45 to go, for the Lions, cutting it to 13-6, but Leah Dunn got that back and Schiano scored two more less than three minutes apart, making it 16-6. That goal not only gave the Panthers a 10-goal lead and was the 200th team goal of the season.

It was also the first goal of the night against Saint Leo goaltender Rebecca Halley, who came in with the score 15-6.

FIT (10-2, 2-1 SSC) scored the final six goals of the game, including one from Mollie Kaplan, with 2:30 left in the game and Leah Dunn capped the scoring with 25 seconds to go.

The Panthers took 45 shots, with 36 of them on goal. Saint Leo finished with 10 shots on goal. Saint Leo turned the ball over 24 times and the Panthers scooped up 31 ground balls in the win.

Florida Tech will play their final home game Saturday night, against the Tampa Spartans. It will also be Senior night at Florida Tech Panther Stadium. First draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
