Panthers Win Big Over Notre Dame De Namur

The Florida Tech men’s lacrosse team scored 14 first half goals on Monday, using that as a springboard for a 22-6 win over the visiting Notre Dame De Namur Argonauts.

Nick Wynne was a man possessed in this one, scoring four goals and picking up four assists. Logan Sweeney scored four goals and assisted on two more. He had a hat trick with 5:11 left in the first quarter.

Cody Martin had a six-point day, with a hat trick and three assists. Carson Clough scored two goals before they hit the seven-minute mark of the first quarter.

The Panthers (4-4) scored early and often in this one, with 32 of their 55 shots being on net. The Argonauts fall to 3-7 overall and have now lost two in a row.

Florida Tech scored the first seven goals of the period, with the only Argos goal coming with 1:10 remaining, off the stick of Justin Eggimann. Andrew Kofoed found the back of the net, with five seconds left, beating Panthers goalie Daniel Flock and making it a 7-2 game.

Wynne had two assists in the first quarter and scored two in the second quarter, helping the Panthers to another seven-goal frame. Collin Zoll scored his first goal of the year in that second quarter. The only goal for Notre Dame De Namur came from Nicholas Wameling. It was the first of two on the day for Wameling.

Brad Schillinger scored for the Panthers with 24 seconds left, giving the Panthers a 14-3 lead at the half.

Flock got to watch the second half from the bench, giving up only three goals in the first half. He also made three saves. The Panthers took 34 shots in the first 30 minutes, while holding the Argonauts to 10.

Matt Young took over for Flock to start the second half and the Panthers offense took their foot off the gas pedal a bit. Wynne scored twice and had two assists in the third quarter and Tyler Covey scored with six seconds left, making it 19-5, as the quarter expired.

Young started the fourth, but was replaced by Kyle Forbes, with 6:15 left in the game. Young gave up three goals in his 23:45 of work, while Forbes made two saves and did not allow a goal.

Offensively, Sweeney, Martin and Reid Chaconas scored the goals for the Panthers in the fourth quarter.


Florida Tech hits the road on Saturday, traveling to Charlotte, NC to take on the Queens University Royals. Faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
