The 12th ranked Florida Tech women’s lacrosse team continued their winning ways Thursday night, pounding first year program Concordia-St. Paul, 20-5. It was the eighth consecutive victory for the Panthers, who have been playing lights out as of late.

Aleah Fjelstad scored four goals and two assists to lead the home team. Sara Grenier, Mary Gormley and Allie Modica all posted hat tricks for the Panthers, while Caroline Dunleavy had a goal and an assist hat trick.

It was a long night for Concordia-St. Paul goalie Katie Lottsfeldt, who saw the Panthers fire 35 shots, 31 of those on goal. She made 11 saves. Her counterpart Stephanie Stuart continued her stellar play in the Panthers net, making four saves. Chloe Zador played the second half in place of Stuart and she allowed two goals.

Fjelstad and Lauren Tybor scored 17 seconds apart, getting the Panthers off and running less than three minutes into the game. Grenier and Gormley scored back-to-back goals, making it a 4-0 game.

Kailey Heinl scored her first of four goals for the Golden Bears, beating Stuart, with 21:29 to go in the first half. The Panthers answered that with another three-goal run, Fjelstad had the first two goals, 38 seconds apart and Grenier added another one, giving the Panthers a 7-1 lead.

Heinl scored with 16:53 to go in the half, to break up the Panthers run, but the Panthers answered that with a seven-goal run. Sam Schiano and Gormley each scored twice in that span. Alexis Townsend added one as well.

To the surprise of no one, Heinl struck again with 22 seconds left, giving her the hat trick. The Panthers led 14-3 at the half.

The entire second half was played with a running clock, as the Panthers kept their lead at 10 or more, throughout. Tybor scored 24 seconds into the second half, with Dunleavy and Modica adding two more, before Cassidy Leininger scored for Concordia-St. Paul, with 17:26 left.

Modica’s goal with 15:09 to go made it 18-4, but Heinl finished off her impressive night, with her fourth of the game, with 6:53 to go. Townsend scored with 2:35 to go and Fjelstad, who started the goal-scoring barrage for the Panthers, fittingly bookended it with 36 seconds to go.

The Panthers were dominant statistically, taking advantage of 29 Golden Bears turnovers. Florida Tech went 14-for-14 on clears and won the ground ball battle, 29-18. Draw-controls were 13-12 in favor of the home team and in free-position shots, 8-1.

Florida Tech is home again on Monday, to host Colorado Mesa University. First draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
