Florida Tech Lacrosse Comes Up Short

The Florida Tech lacrosse team suffered their third straight
loss Saturday afternoon, a 13-11 defeat at Mount Olive. It was another
hard-luck loss for the Panthers, who have lost all three games by a combined
five goals.
The Ninth-ranked Trojans scored eight goals in the second
half, improving their record to 3-0. Daniel
Flock took the loss between the pipes for Florida Tech, falling to 1-3 on
the season.
The Panthers played well in the first half, getting goals 10
seconds apart from Reid Chaconas and
Nick Wynne, against Mount Olive
keeper Will Urban. Less than a minute later, Charlie Morrisette made it a 3-0 lead for the visitors.
The Trojans scored the next three goals, tying the game on Luke
Dalman’s tally, with 4:39 left in the quarter. The Panthers regained the lead
2:59 later, with a goal from Austen
Zugelter.
After a Mount Olive goal tied the game 34 seconds into the
second quarter, Tyler Covey, Wynne
and Carson Clough ripped off three
straight goals for Florida Tech and a 7-4 lead. Clough ended up with a four-point day (1 G, 3 A).

Sweeney doubled the Panthers lead to 8-4. Wynne completed his hat trick
with 3:31 left in the half, giving the Panthers a five-goal lead.
Mount Olive started the third quarter with three straight
goals, before Zugelter broke the streak with his second goal of the day, making
it 10-8 Florida Tech. Jacob Ball scored back-to-back goals about three minutes
apart, tying the score at 11, with 8:53 left.
The game winner came on a man-up goal by Brett Kingston with
6:01 left and the Trojans got an insurance goal with just over two seconds
left, off the stick of Austin Whitlow.

The Panthers fired 52 shots at Urban 26 on goal. He made 15
saves. Mount Olive had 21 shots on goal. Florida Tech was 19-of 20 on clears
and won the ground ball battle, 35-22. The Panthers also held the advantage at
the faceoff X, 15-12.
The Panthers return home March 4, to take on the Wheeling
Jesuit Cardinals at 11:00 a.m. at the F.W. Olin Sports Complex.
