Florida Tech Volleyball Loses Two Road Matches
The Florida Tech Volleyball team is in the midst of a
nine-game losing streak, including two losses last week to Lynn and Barry, both
on the road.
On Thursday September 22, the Panthers fell 3-0 to Lynn,
committing 20 hit errors and losing by scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-15.

season, was held to 22 in this match, but she added seven digs to lead the
team.
Kelly Germain led the Panthers with 13 kills, added five
digs and blocked two. Jenna Schaffer and Samantha Reeves each contributed four
kills and a block.
Lynn went on a run that saw them win seven out of eight
points in game one and led 13-5 and then went on another eight-point run to go
up 22-7. Before winning by 14. Game two saw the Panthers jump out to a 7-4
lead, before the Fighting Knights won four straight points to take the lead.
The game went back-and-forth the rest of the way, but Lynn won
three of the last four points, to win 25-21. Florida Tech started game three
with a 3-0 lead, but the Fighting Knights came back with a vengeance, winning
12 of the next 14 points, to take a 12-5 lead. They never looked back, putting
the finishing touches on game three and earning the 3-0 shutout.
On Saturday, the road trip continued with the team traveling
to Miami Shores, to take on the Barry Buccaneers in another Sunshine State
Conference match up. While the Panthers were able to get in the win column in
this match, they fell 3-1.
Barry (8-3, 2-1 SSC) won the first game 25-23, despite Florida
Tech jumping out to a 9-3 lead. The Bucs went on a 7-1 run, tying the game at
10. Things were pretty even for a while, before Barry went on a six-point run
to take a 23-20 lead and they hung on from there.
Game two was never really in doubt, with Barry dominating
25-14. The Panthers bounced back with a 27-25 win in game three, winning five
points in a row and seven out of nine. With that, the teams went into a fourth
game.
The Panthers (2-9, 0-3 SSC) got off to a good start, winning
the first four points, but Barry came back with a 7-2 run and led 7-6. They
backed that up with a little bit of a run, jumping out to an 18-13 lead and
never let Florida Tech back in, taking the fourth game 25-18.
Statistically it was a decent day for the Panthers, as
Germain reached a career-high with 18 kills. Schaffer and Olivia Hersey had 11
kills each and Rosa got back on track with 35 assists, 10 digs, four kills and
three blocks.
The Panthers are home twice this week, hosting Tampa on
Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and Saint Leo on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
