The Brevard County Manatees evened the series at Lakeland on Tuesday, with a 6-4 win in a rain-shortened, six inning game. Brevard County got on the board early against starter Matt Hall, but had to stave off a Flying Tigers rally in the middle portion of the game.

Corey Ray, Fidel Pena and George Iskenderian started off the game with consecutive singles. Iskenderian’s brought Ray home with the first run. Iskenderian was promptly picked off at first. One out later, Hall uncorked a wild pitch and Pena moved to third. Blake Allemand followed with an RBI single to left and the Manatees led 2-0.

Marcos Diplan started the game for Brevard County and after retiring Lakeland in order in the bottom of the first, he was given more offensive support in the top of the second. Mitch Ghelfi led off with a walk and went to second on a Malik Collymore single, one out later. Ray came up for his second at bat and drew a walk, to load the bases. Fidel Pena then took Hall deep over the left-center field wall for a grand slam, upping the Manatees lead to 6-0.

Diplan got through the first three innings without allowing a hit. Rashad Brown singled to start the fourth and that seemed to jumpstart the Lakeland offense. A.J. Simcox doubled Brown home one out later and Kade Scivicque’s single brought Simcox home, cutting the lead to 6-2. Diplan gave up another double to Wade Hinkle and walked Zac Shepherd, but was able to get out of the inning, without further damage.

Lakeland (14-27, 48-61) scored a run in the fifth on an Ismael Salgado ground out, scoring Anthony Pereira, who doubled to start the inning and went to third on a wild pitch. In the sixth, Scivicque hit his second homer in as many days against the Manatees, making it a 6-4 game. Moments later, the rains came and the game was delayed. After an hour delay, the game was called and the Manatees got the win.

Ray finished the day 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored and Pena was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Iskenderian (RBI), Rubio, Allemand (RBI) and Ghelfi had the other hits for the Manatees.
Scivicque (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBIs) had the only multi-hit day for Lakeland.

The series continues on Wednesday, with another 1:00 p.m. EDT start. The Manatees (14-31, 37-76) will call on Bubba Derby (6-10, 5.63 ERA) against Jeff Thompson (7-5, 3.83 ERA).
