Florida Tech Beats Winless Warner
The Florida Tech Soccer team picked up their 10th
win of the season in a dominating 4-1 win at Warner. Freshman Hugo Lopez scored
twice for the Panthers in the win and sent the Royals to an 0-15 record in
2016.
Being a non-conference late season game, this was a chance
for the Panthers to put some of their young talent in a game situation and it
worked well. Sophomore Petur Petursson started
in goal for Florida Tech and made four saves, all in the second half. The
Royals took just six shots as a team in this match.
The Panthers (10-3-1) got Petursson an early lead with Lopez
tickling the twine 10:03 into the match, beating Warner keeper Mauricio Delgado,
for a 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Colton
Johnson- Drymon, a Junior from Satellite Beach.
It took just over 13 minutes for the Panthers to double
their lead, with a goal off the foot of Freshman Brandon Smalley. Florida Tech
kept the pressure up with four consecutive shots over the next 10 minutes, with
Johnson-Drymon, Lopez, Smalley and Sophomore Zak Woodward.
Jack Willison and
Per Henrik Nag each got shots off
before the end of the half, but they were not on goal. The Panthers couldn’t
cash in on any of those opportunities, but they took the 2-0 lead to the locker
room and had an impressive 13 shots in the half, seven on goal, with Delgado
getting credit for four saves.
Florida Tech expanded their lead just 8:48 into the second
half, with Lopez finding the back of the net for the second time in the match.
Smalley was credited with the assist and the Panthers took a commanding 3-0
lead.
Warner avoided the shutout, when Rommel Hoppolyte found the
back of the net, with less than 20 minutes left in the match. Devyn Hencil got
the assist on the only goal of the night for the home team.
With 79:13 gone, Adin
Kavara put the icing on the cake for Florida Tech when he drilled home a
rebound off the post, giving the Panthers the 4-1 lead.

game, 13 of those were on goal and four found the back of the net. That’s about
as good a night as you can ask for as an offense.

against Embry-Riddle on Friday. The match gets underway at 7:00 p.m.
