On Monday, two runs were enough for the Brevard County Manatees to pick up a win, behind a great pitching performance from Bubba Derby. Tuesday, the Fort Myers Miracle turned the tables, with a 2-1 victory at Hammond Stadium.

Brandon Woodruff (0-1) was the tough luck loser on this night for the Manatees. He had one bad inning in the bottom of the first frame. Tanner English started things with a single and stole second. He wasn’t there long, as Chad Christensen took a hanging slider deep over the centerfield wall, giving his team a 2-0 lead.

Fort Myers hurler Randy Rosario (1-0) was on his game. He retired the first 16 Brevard County batters he faced, before allowing back-to-back single to Angel Ortega and Brandon Diaz. Omar Garcia struck out and Ortega went to third on a wild pitch. The rally died when George Iskenderian flew out, ending the inning.

Woodruff gave up a single in the sixth, but picked that runner off and went on to end his night with two strikeouts. After that shaky first inning, Woodruff bounced back nicely. He pitched six innings, gave up seven hits and allowed just the two runs on the home run. She struck out seven and walked one. Woodruff ended the night with 84 pitches, 63 for strikes.

Rosario was lifted after six innings, giving up two hits and striking out eight. He was economical, throwing just 65 pitches, 47 for strikes. Luke Bard followed him for an inning and Yorman Landa came in to pitch the eighth. That’s when Brevard County finally made some noise.

Jose Cuas walked and went to third on Angel Ortega’s single. Brandon Diaz dropped down a sacrifice bunt, moving Ortega to second. Omar Garcia grounded out, scoring Cuas and closing the gap to 2-1.

In the ninth, the Manatees put together another rally, against closer Todd Van Steensel. With two outs, Dustin Houle drew a walk and was taken out for pinch-runner Johnny Davis. Davis immediately stole second, but was stranded there when Taylor Brennan struck out to end the game.

Brevard County drops to 2-4 with the loss. The Miracle improved to 3-3. Game three of the series will be played Wednesday, in Fort Myers. Angel Ventura is scheduled to make his first start for Brevard County. He will be opposed by Stephen Gonsalves. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
