McCarthy Strikes Again as Panthers Move to 3-0

Image
The Florida Tech Women’s Soccer team got another shutout victory Friday night, beating the Christian Brothers University Bucs by the score of 1-0 in Saint Leo Florida. After scoring both goals in a 2-1 overtime win over West Florida on Sunday, Kiera McCarthy tallied in the 20 th minute of Friday’s match and the Panthers defense, along with goaltender Karlyn Prisco, made it stand up. Despite scoring just one goal, the Panthers pelted Bucs’ goalie Emily Wragg with 26 shots, including 11 on goal. Her 10 saves made this a much closer game than it probably should have been. Meanwhile, Prisco had to make just three saves, with Christian Brothers totaling just five shots in the contest. The Panthers got off seven shots and one corner kick in the first 15 minutes of the game, with Wragg having to make four saves in that time. Aubri Williamson and Elin Svensson got two more shots off, before McCarthy finally found the back of the net at 19:01. Williamson was credited with...

Englehart Talks Injuries Following Thursday Practice

Image
The Florida Tech Panthers took to the field for practice on Thursday and the first impression out of the gate is that head coach Steve Englehart runs a tight ship. The players were attentive (even at 7:30 a.m.) and the practice ran very smoothly, as the team ran through multiple situations for much of the morning. As expected, there were mistakes made in certain scenarios and the coaches dealt with them immediately. There were also some good things done and they were praised accordingly. In short, it was a typical practice, with players who were tested and very attentive. With about 15 minutes left, the music was cranking and things loosened up just a bit. Overall, a mix of business-like atmosphere, with a little bit of fun sprinkled in. The unexpected news came after practice when Englehart was asked about his number one wide receiver Romell (‘Melo) Guerrier , who suffered a wrist injury in the opening week win over Newberry on Saturday. “He’s out for the seaso...

Men’s Soccer Earns Win and Tie in Opening Week

The Florida Tech Men’s Soccer team played two home games last week, winning one and getting a hard fought tie in game two. They opened the season on Thursday, with a 2-0 win over Union Tennessee. The Panthers’ defense clamped down for much of the night, holding Union to four shots through the entirety of the match. Florida Tech Junior forward Evan Enders beat Bulldogs goalkeeper Igor Luczensky at the 39:17 mark, with his first and only shot of the night after he beat three defenders across the goal line. That put the Panthers up 1-0. Tobias Hildmann picked up the assist. The second goal of the night came from Senior forward Adin Kavara , at the 73:23 mark. Senior defender Sam Sawyer headed the ball down to Kavara, who blasted it by Luczensky, giving the home team a 2-0 advantage and the eventual win. Three of the Bulldogs four shots came in the second half. Florida Tech Freshman goaltender Christian Moerch was credited with three saves. FIT dominated in corner kic...
