FIT Soccer Teams Eliminated from SSC Soccer Tournament
The Florida Tech soccer teams were victimized by surprising
results in Tuesday’s opening round of the Sunshine State Conference tournament,
with both the men and women dropping their respective games.
The men lost to Eckerd, 3-1, while the Barry Buccaneers made their first half goal stand up, against the women.
The men lost to Eckerd, 3-1, while the Barry Buccaneers made their first half goal stand up, against the women.
The men’s result was particularly surprising, considering
that they had beaten the Tritons twice in the regular season, winning
3-2 on September 17 and 5-1 on October 18.
Adin Kavara, who scored three times in the second meeting, scored
the only goal for the Panthers on Tuesday, but his goal came in the 81st
minute and only helped his team avoid a shutout.
The Panthers (11-4-1, 6-4-0 SSC) outshot Eckerd 16-13, but Tritons
goaltender was only forced to make four saves on the night. Panthers backstop Christian Moerch, made five saves in
the loss.
One save he couldn’t make came at the 30:13 mark when Matheus
Assumpcao beat him on a low shot of a pass from Juan David Tejada. Moritz Hannemann
made it 2-0, 18:22 into the second half and just over four minutes later, Tejada
put the game away when he banged in a rebound, giving the visitors a commanding
3-0 lead.
Kavara, who has made a career of putting home penalty kicks,
did just that at the 80:03 mark. It was his 12th goal of the season
for the Panthers.

The women were locked in a battle with the Bucs, who they beat earlier in the season, outshooting
the home team 16-11. In the end, though, Rayah Seckler was the only one who
made a shot count for either side, beating Florida Tech goalie Karlyn Prisco
41:32 into the match and carrying the home team to a 1-0 victory.
Prisco made two saves in each half, while Paula Forero made
four in each half for the Buccaneers.
Amanda Traynor sent a pass to the top of the six-yard box
and Seckler sent it past Prisco.
The Panthers (11-6-0, 4-5-0 SSC) did not go down without a
fight, getting 10 shots on goal in the second half and a corner kick with four
seconds left in regulation, but they just couldn’t find the back of the net.
