Florida Tech Men Blanked by Lynn


The Florida Tech Men’s Soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss at Lynn on Saturday, in a Sunshine State Conference match. The loss was the first in the conference for the Panthers, who fell to 5-2-1 overall. Lynn improved to 8-1-1 and 3-1-1 in the conference.

Florida Tech fired nine shots on goal, but Alexander Roth was a wall in front of the Fighting Knights net, turning away all of them. Christian Moerch, who was playing his first game since being named player of the week, faced six shots.

Jack Watson scored twice in the match, including the eventual game winner, just 7:22 into the contest. That was the only goal of the first half, but the home team was able to add some insurance in the second half.

Florida Tech had six shots in each half, they just weren’t able to solve a very tough goaltender. Roth made five saves in the second half, while his offense got goals from Dominic Docherty at 60:56 and Watson, at 66:27, as he knocked in a rebound, to put the icing on the cake.

Josh Thomas, Per Henrik Nag, Adin Kavara and Luca Campanini all had two shots on goal, while Jan Hlavica had one.

The Panthers will be on the road again Wednesday, traveling to Lake Whales, FL to take on Warner. The match gets underway at 7:00 p.m.

Foul-shooting kept the Panthers in this game, as they hit 26-of-29 from the line, in a game that featured a combined 56 fouls and 61 foul shots. Bellarmine finished 23-for-32 from the stripe. Julie McCarthy led the Panthers with a career-high 25 points and hit 15 of her 17 free throws. She also had 10 rebounds. Shequana Harris chipped in 18. Sarah Galvin led the Knights with a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 11 boards. She scored her 1,000 th point as a member of the Knights in this contest. Brevard County Blanked in Fort Myers

Angel Ventura The Brevard County Manatees struggled to find their offense on Wednesday, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Fort Myers Miracle at Hammond Stadium. Brevard County managed just three hits in the game, this  following a four hit  performance on Tuesday.  Statistically, it didn’t look good for the Manatees, but they did have their chances, early in the contest.  Clint Coulter started the second inning with a single against Fort Myers starter  Stephen Gonsalves . One out later, Fidel Pena singled and moved up on a Jose Cuas walk, loading the bases. Omar Garcia was next up and hit a slow grounder to second, which was turned into an inning ending double play. The Miracle (4-3) got on the board in the second inning against Manatees righty  Angel Ventura . Trey Vavra started the inning with a hard hit ball to left field, that hit the glove of Brandon Diaz and fell for a double. Pence Stifles Palm Beach Atlantic Offense

Karina Suicava - Photo credit: James Ragan Photography Florida Tech softball won its fourth consecutive game Friday afternoon, taking down the visiting Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish by the score of 8-1, in the opener of a three-game series. “We played really well in all three areas, pitching offense and defense,” said Panthers coach Val Silvestrini. “That was going to be our challenge for this year and I’m really proud of the way we played today.” The Panthers used home runs from Julianna Goldberg and Karina Suicava , along with a stellar pitching performance from Rachel Pence , who allowed just three hits and struck out seven en route to her 10 th win of the season. “She did awesome, it’s all about her hitting her spots and having the right spin,” said Panthers coach Val Silvestrini, of Pence. “I think she’s doing a much better job lately with that and she called a great game.” Florida Tech (15-16) got to Sailfish starter Ashton Adkins early, scoring three ru
