The Brevard County Manatees were victimized by another great pitching performance Wednesday, as Chris Rowley went five innings and allowed one run, leading Dunedin to a 5-1 victory at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium and a sweep of the ‘Tees Camp Day.

After managing three hits on Monday and four on Tuesday, the Manatees were held to four again on Wednesday. The first of those hits on Wednesday, came off the bat of Jose Cuas, who took Rowley deep to lead off the top of the third, giving the Manatees a short-lived 1-0 lead. Cuas hit the homer, moments after making a great diving stop, then throw, to end the second inning.

Dunedin (33-36) got to Manatees starter Kodi Medeiros in the bottom of the third. Medeiros had walked three batters in the first two innings, so his command wasn’t where he wanted it and Dunedin took advantage of that. Aaron Attaway started the third with a single and rode home on a double by Jonathan Davis, tying the game at one. One out later, Medeiros walked Emilio Guerrero, putting runners at the corners. Ryan McBroom then laced a double to left, plating two runs and giving the Blue Jays a 3-1 lead.

The struggles continued for Medeiros in the fourth inning. After retiring the leadoff man, he gave up a single to Michael De La Cruz. Attaway doubled to move De La Cruz to third and Davis brought him home with a sacrifice fly, making it 4-1. Richard Urena’s RBI single capped the scoring and built the Blue Jays a four run cushion that was never threatened.

Medeiros (3-6) was done after four innings, following a four inning start by Manatees hurler Eric Hanhold on Tuesday. Medeiros gave up five earned runs on six hits, walked four and struck out two. He threw 82 pitches, 42 for strikes. Clint Terry took over in the fifth and gave the Manatees three solid innings of two-hit baseball.

Meanwhile, Rowley completed five innings, allowing four hits and the Cuas home run. From there, it was bullpen by committee for the Blue Jays, who used five pitchers to complete the final four innings. They got the job done, not allowing a hit. The last Manatees knock was Omar Garcia’s single in the third, following the Cuas dinger.

With the loss, the Manatees finish the first half with a record of 23-45. On Thursday, they will get a new lease on their 2016 baseball life, as the records reset just in time to welcome the Clearwater Threshers to Space Coast Stadium for the first of three games. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
