Florida Tech Introduces Weekly Update


The Florida Tech athletic department has taken another step in keeping fans informed. Tuesday, the school introduced the Panther Weekly Update, which will be released on Mondays. This is a great way to keep up on the scheduled sporting events going on at FIT.

The weekly update will let you know what days the Panthers teams are playing, home and away and will feature links you can use to follow the game action.

Sports Lowdown will post a link to the update every week here on the website and it will also be available on our Twitter account.

Panther Weekly Update – August 29 – Sept. 4

We will be publishing our first Florida Tech game article, following Saturday’s football opener against Newberry College, in South Carolina. We look forward to bringing you coverage of Florida Tech Athletics throughout the season.

Karlyn Prisco - Photo credit: James Ragan Miranda Gonzalez scored the only goal of the night in the 39th minute on Saturday, giving her Tampa Spartans a 1-0 win over Florida Tech in a Sunshine State women's soccer matchup.   Brie Heitz , Kerel Morris , Karlyn Prisco , Elin Svensson , Mary Watson and  Aubri Williamson were all honored in a pregame ceremony. They will have one more regular season home game before saying goodbye to the Florida Tech fans for good.   Prisco gave up the first half goal, but she kept her team in it, making a couple key saves before that, including a diving save on an Emily Cady shot in the 24th minute and a follow-up save on Gonzalez, six seconds later. She finished the night with six saves overall. Florida Tech to Host North Greenville in Regional Playoff Game

The Florida Tech Panthers will not only play the first postseason game in their four-year history next Saturday, they will host it. The Panthers were given the three seed in Super Region 2 and will welcome North Greenville to Melbourne on Saturday, November 19, at 12:00 p.m. North Greenville went 7-4, including losses to The Citadel and North Alabama, the number one ranked team in the region. They are coming off wins against Wingate, Carson-Newman and finished with a 37-0 win on the road Limestone College.   The Panthers (8-2, 5-2 GSC) were ranked fifth in the regional rankings that came out November 7. They were going to need a win over Delta State on Saturday and a bump from the selection committee on Sunday, to get a home game. They got both. North Greenville Ends Florida Tech’s Football Season

The North Greenville Crusaders came into Florida Tech Panther Stadium as the underdog on Saturday, but they certainly didn’t play like it. They used a 24 point second half to upset the Panthers 27-13 in an NCAA Division II first round game. “North Greenville’s a really good football team, that’s what it comes down to,” said Panthers head coach Steve Englehart after the game. “They controlled a lot of the clock, especially in the first half and they were great on third down offense.” Things started well for the Panthers, who blocked a 44-yard field goal on the Crusaders first drive. Freshman quarterback Brandon Ziarno , who was making his first start under center, drove Florida Tech down the field on their opening possession, but he was forced to quick kick it on fourth down, pinning NGU at their own eight-yard line.
