Florida Tech Introduces Weekly Update


The Florida Tech athletic department has taken another step in keeping fans informed. Tuesday, the school introduced the Panther Weekly Update, which will be released on Mondays. This is a great way to keep up on the scheduled sporting events going on at FIT.

The weekly update will let you know what days the Panthers teams are playing, home and away and will feature links you can use to follow the game action.

Sports Lowdown will post a link to the update every week here on the website and it will also be available on our Twitter account.

We will be publishing our first Florida Tech game article, following Saturday’s football opener against Newberry College, in South Carolina. We look forward to bringing you coverage of Florida Tech Athletics throughout the season.

Elvis Rubio For the second straight night, the Brevard County Manatees used a four-run inning to beat the visiting Clearwater Threshers at Space Coast Stadium. On Tuesday night  it was a four-run fifth  and on Wednesday, it was the second inning that supplied more than enough for the Manatees to post a second consecutive victory.  “After the win last night to come in and have that big inning, put up for runs was big,” said Manatees skipper Joe Ayrault. “It’s always a good feeling to get the lead and put the hammer down.” The hammer came down quickly on Clearwater starter Ranfi Casimiro (5-3) in that second frame. Fidel Pena started it with an infield single and  Elvis Rubio  followed with a two-run bomb over the wall in left. Dustin Houle hit a high chopper and beat the throw to first. Mader Masterful in Win Over Manatees

Elvis Rubio Miami Marlins No. 21 prospect Michael Mader held the Brevard County Manatees to one run over seven innings, helping the Jupiter Hammerheads to a 3-1 win Thursday night in front of 1,487 fans at Space Coast Stadium. The Manatees (5-15, 28-60) built a threat in the bottom of the first, with Corey Ray leading things off with a bunt that drew the first baseman away from the bag and by the time Mader picked up the ball, there was no one covering first and Ray beat it out. It was one of two hits on the night for Ray. “That’s gonna be a good weapon in his arsenal,” said Manatees manager Joe Ayrault. “To see him do that on his own was one of the highlights of my night. It was exciting.”  Wendell Rijo followed with a sacrifice bunt right in front of the plate and the Manatees had a runner in scoring position, two batters in. Turnovers Doom Panthers in Loss at North Alabama

Braly Municipal Stadium - Photo Credit: Jerry Durney North Alabama (2-3, 2-2 GSC) made their last Division II meeting against Florida Tech a memorable one on Homecoming Saturday, using 21 third-quarter points to pull away from the Panthers, 30-7. “It was just a horrible third quarter, can't-do anything about it,” said Florida Tech coach Steve Englehart in his post-game interview with Jerry Durney and Paul Van Scott of WFIT Radio. “Told our guys in the locker room you gotta do the little things right from Monday to Friday, you can't just expect to do them on Saturday and we gotta get better.”   On a night when the Panthers won many of the statistical battles handily, defending Gulf South Conference champion North Alabama took advantage of four turnovers, turning that into 20 points and sending the Panthers home with their second straight conference loss.   “Too many bad things happened,” Englehart, said. “Offensively, not really executing, couldn't bloc
