The Florida State League schedule resumed Monday, following the 2016 All-Star break and the Brevard County Manatees traveled to Florida Auto Exchange Stadium to open a three-game series against the Dunedin Blue Jays.

Jonathan Davis had a home run in the third and a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth, leading the home nine to a 3-2 victory.

Dunedin starting pitcher Justin Shafer held the Manatees in check for much of the night and got help from his offense in the early going. After Manatees’ starter Bubba Derby got the first out, Davis smacked his 10th home run of the season the opposite way and gave the D-Jays a 1-0 lead. Derby gave up two more hits in the inning, but was able to escape further trouble.

Dunedin (31-36) added a run in the fourth, which started with a double by Jorge Saez. D.J. Davis grounded out, moving Saez to third. Gunnar Heidt, who was just added to the Dunedin roster prior to the All-Star Break, brought Saez home with a sacrifice fly, making it 2-0. Ryan McBroom singled with two outs in the fifth, but Derby got out of the inning and the Manatees offense finally got going in the sixth.

Jorge Ortega walked and Elvis Rubio hit a two-out single, just the second hit of the night for Brevard County. Clint Coulter followed with a grounder to third that hit off the glove of Heidt, scoring Ortega and closing the gap to 2-1. The play was ruled an error, resulting in an unearned run.

Derby gave way to reliever Junior Rincon in the seventh, after going six innings. He allowed seven hits and two earned runs, walking one and not striking out a batter. Derby threw 97 pitches, 62 for strikes. Rincon (0-2) cruised through his first two innings without a problem. He and Derby combined to send 11 Blue Jays down in order. Meanwhile, the ‘Tees (23-43) tied things up in the top of the eighth, against reliever Colton Turner, who came in after Jose Fernandez pitched a scoreless frame.

Turner struck out Ortega and Dustin DeMuth, before Rubio singled. Coulter drew a walk, putting runners at first and second for George Iskenderian. He proceeded to line a single to center, scoring Rubio with the tying run.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth, when Rincon ran into big trouble. D.J. Davis doubled with one out and Heidt drew a walk. The ball four pitch was in the dirt and went by catcher Dustin Houle, allowing Davis to get to third and an alert Heidt moved to second. After a walk to Dickie Joe Thon loaded the bases, Jonathan Davis smacked one to right against reliever Josh Uhen, scoring the winning run and giving Dunedin their third walk-off win of the season.

This series continues Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Eric Hanhold (2-7, 4.26 ERA) is scheduled to get the start for the Manatees.
