Jiandido Tromp knocked in four runs for the Clearwater Threshers on Friday, helping the Clearwater Threshers beat the visiting Brevard County Manatees 6-3 at Bright House Field.

Tromp did the majority of his damage in the bottom of the first, driving a three-run homer over the left field wall and into the bullpen against Manatees starter Bubba Derby. His homer followed an RBI single by Mitch Walding, giving the home team a 4-0 lead after one inning.

Carlos Tocci added to the lead with a two-out solo homer, making it a 5-0 game after two. It was not the start the Manatees were hoping for, after getting their first win of the second half in walk-off fashion on Wednesday night, against the Daytona Tortugas.

Derby (5-6) came out for the fifth inning, but walked Scott Kingery and gave up a double to Kyle Martin before being lifted for Clint Terry. After a walk to Walding, Terry gave up a sacrifice fly to Tromp, giving the Threshers a 6-0 lead. The run was charged to Derby, who lasted just four innings for the Manatees. This start followed his start on June 25 against Clearwater, where he went 4.1 innings. Friday’s line was not pretty. Six runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out two. 43 of his 74 pitches were strikes.

Despite the early deficit, the Manatees offense battled back in the late innings, scoring single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth. Omar Garcia reached on an error in the sixth against Threshers starter Ranfi Casimiro and later scored on an RBI double by Blake Allemand. In the seventh, Fidel Pena doubled with one out, knocking Casimiro out of the game.
Matt Hockenberry came on and got Dustin Houle to ground to short. Malquin Canelo threw the ball to first, but it was not on line, putting runners at first and third. One out later, Omar Garcia walked, loading the bases. Allemand then wore one for the Manatees, getting another RBI the hard way, making it a 6-2 game. That brought the tying run to the plate in Dustin DeMuth, but he struck out swinging, ending the threat.

Brevard County (1-7, 24-52) plated one more run in the top of the eighth, against reliever Victor Arano. Elvis Rubio and Clint Coulter hit back-to-back singles to start things. One out later, Pena singled and Rubio scored, making it 6-3. Dustin Houle and Malik Collymore each came to the plate as the tying run, but Arano retired both of them, preserving the lead.

Allemand was hit by a pitch in the ninth and was not being held on by the Threshers, so he took off hoping to steal second and was thrown out. That killed any potential rally and allowed the Threshers to take the victory and improve to 5-4 in the first half and 44-33 overall.
Kaleb Earls came in and finished the game for the Manatees, firing the final two innings and only allowing one hit. He walked one and struck out two.

Tocci, Walding and Tromp all had two hits for the Threshers and those three combined to knock in all six runs. Rubio Coulter and Pena were the multi-hit guys for the Manatees and Allemand had two RBIs.

Game two of the series is slated for Saturday, with the Manatees sending Eric Hanhold to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
